How do you decide what makes a good book for your child?
Does it excite and engage them with the story and characters?
Is there challenging and interesting vocabulary and ideas?
Do they (and you) enjoy reading it again and again and still get new things from it?
If so you are onto a winner.

Vlad and the Stone Age is out now and is packed with information about life in the Mesolithic Period.
The research took us from the archaeological finds at Star Carr in North Yorkshire, to the incredible caves at Creswell Crags and Cheddar Man in the galleries of The Natural History Museum. The finds and research are woven into the story and Sam's illustrations, show the reality of life after the Ice Age and in the Middle Stone Age.
It's been an incredible learning-curve, but if you are a teacher or parent with children who are learning about the Stone Age this will give you lots of information all wrapped up in a story.
The Reading Riddle website has free resources such as lesson plans, word mats and explanations of the history detailed in the pictures.
We've loved making this latest installment in Vlad's adventures and we really hope you enjoy it too.

Meet Atrox - former gladiator who got his freedom and now is security for the amphitheatre in Londinium.
He is strong and steady, but with a weakness that might play in your favour.
If you have chosen wisely and got this far in the story, you now need to get past him and into the arena.
Are you going to do this head on or try and find a way around him?

Often we know what was in Roman London but cannot see it. In 1988 the amphitheatre was uncovered and a huge piece of history snapped into place.
Our new Choose A Timeline book also reveals life in Londinium on the cusp of Hadrian’s visit.
It’s a perfect way for children to explore the City and take part in a Roman adventure.

Small ripples make big waves, and simple choices have impacts that decide the outcome of this story in our Choose a Timeline series.

Will you step up and save the cup, or step back and let it fall?

It might seem an easy choice but there are other factors at play in our book, Wolves of Londinium.

Who is throwing it, and what are they trying to gain?

This cup is based on the wonderful sherds in the London Museum exhibition on mudlarking finds.

History is buried beneath the story just like the sherds and foundations under modern London.

You get to Choose A Timeline, and your choices will decide if you complete the task … or end up as a tiger’s dinner!
Our brand new series takes young (or old) readers through the streets of Londinium. Along the way they discover what life was like and how Roman London was a busy port bringing exotic goods and people from across the world.

Another day of stories and drawing with @samcunninghamart - this time at Southsea Castle organised by The Mary Rose Museum. It was gloriously sunny and we got to meet old friends and make new ones.

As our Stone Age family travel they pass through Creswell Crags. It such an evocative unspoilt setting and really made it possible to imagine you were thrown back into the past.

This all happened a few weeks ago and after dealing with the initial claim and reorder I pushed the box to one side to deal with later.

Well later has arrived and it’s a big box to be climbing over. Luckily BookVault were amazing about getting it sorted and we got the books in time.

One of the more frustrating parts of being a small publisher and dealing with the distribution end of the process.

Malton Roman Festival V was a triumph.
@samcunninghamart led a fabulous drawing session with lots of great young artists, the sun blazed down on Kate’s storytelling and we had lots of entries to win Sam’s painting of a wolf to celebrate the launch of or new book - Wolves of Londinium (our choose your adventure history book). The young winner was able to collect her prize to round off a wonderful day.
Well done @malton_museum for great organisation.
