As Remembrance Day approaches I wanted to highlight some resources that could be used at school or home to talk about this in an age-appropriate way. When I wrote Vlad and the First World War, I made a decision that Vlad’s companion should be a carrier pigeon rather than a rat, to share the breadth of the war experience and how it touched people in all walks of life, from around the globe. Flying across the Western Front Vlad and Crisp the pigeon get to interact with many different people that have been pulled into the conflict and that is a theme which is reflected in the resources too.
Click on the links below to find the materials:
- A PowerPoint suitable for a school assembly, in the classroom or just as a prompt for an individual discussion.
- Lesson resources – either to use for a whole topic or lesson 7 can be extracted as a stand-alone lesson designing a memorial.
- Parent Pack that supports Vlad and the First World War that includes ideas and questions for you to share with children too.
There is also the new online game on the Vlad Flea website, arranging significant dates in order.
